Picture the scene: November 1989. It’s the night before opening day of deer season in Michigan’s Upper Peninsula.
The Soady men (patriarch Albert, and sons Reuben and Remnar) arrive at family deer camp, eager for traditional male bonding…drinking, card playing, and of course, hunting.
But thirty-five-year-old Reuben Soady brings with him the infamous reputation of being the oldest Soady in the history of the clan to have never bagged a buck. Locals whisper he’s the “Mother Teresa of Deer Hunting”, “Bambi’s Best Friend”, and “Da Buckless Yooper”. (The horror!)
Added to the mix are recent alien abductee Jimmer Negamanee, DNR officer Ranger Tom, and Reuben’s loyal wife Wolf Moon Dance. Zany, side-splittingly funny chaos ensues as Reuben struggles valiantly to remove himself from the wrong end of the family record book.
Written by Tony nominated Michigan native Jeff Daniels, STAGE-M’s production of ESCANABA IN DA MOONLIGHT is a Super-Yooper laugh fest: the hunting story to beat all hunting stories!
